Take the N12 from Johannesburg / N4 from Pretoria past Witbank (eMalahleni), Belfast, and Machadodorp.

Look out for the alternative road to Nelspruit via Schoemanskloof (recommended), or just continue with the N4 all the way to Nelspruit.

From Nelspruit continue with the N4 all the way to Komatipoort and the Lebombo / Ressano Garcia Border post. Please visit our Info page for border crossing procedures and other great tips for first time visitors to Mozambique.

Once through the border continue with the N4 all the way to Maputo. Upon reaching Maputo proceed through the toll gate and shortly after take a left turn on the EN1 to Xai-Xai. This is the main coastal road to the North.

Continue for app 31km’s to the village of Marracuene where you turn right towards Macanetta Island.
|
|
From Marracuene head towards the ferry departure point.
|
|
One could easily drive as far as Marracuene and onto the ferry departure point with a normal sedan car.
|
|
Safe parking is available at the ferry departure point from where it is possible to arrange a transfer to the Lodge!
|
|
The ferry takes up to 6 vehicles across the Nkomati River at a time (an unforgettable 10 minute journey); from where it is another 5km’s to the resort which is only accessible by 4 x 4 vehicle...just follow the signs to Barco's De Macaneta Lodge.

The ferry operates from 07h00-19h00 daily. Retain your ticket for the return journey!
